Anti-skid and scratch protection

Rubber caps and silicone disc both aim to prevent a magnet from sliding on the attached surface. Magnets can easily slip as the smooth surface of the magnet provides very low friction. So even if a magnet has a strength of, for example, 10 kg, the low friction can mean that the magnet starts to slip at a pull of just 1 kg. Silicone washers and rubber caps are attached to the magnet, increasing the friction and requiring a much higher pull to get the magnet to slide.

In addition to anti-slip, rubber caps and silicone washers prevent scratches on delicate surfaces. Magnets are made of metal and their high strength can easily result in scratches on painted surfaces, for example. A piece of soft rubber between the magnet and the surface effectively puts an end to scratches.
