Channel magnets

Channels magnets work by the same principle as other pot magnets. This means that a steel pot protects the magnet from impact and centers the magnetic force in one direction. In direct contact with an iron surface, channel magnets are therefore very powerful. Channel magnets have some advantages when compared to other types of pot magnets. They cost a bit less because of a more simple design, and their height is a bit lower which can be an advantage in some uses cases. On the more negative side channel magnets are a bit less powerful than other types of pot magnets.
Some use cases for channels magnets are:

  • Magnetic door holder
  • Knife holder
  • Magnetic assembling of furniture
  • Organizing tools on a tool wall
  • Hanging ceiling panels for art exhibitions
Channel magnets have a very strong magnetic pull force due to their steel pot/cap. But be aware that the strength is calculated for a direct pull. If the channel magnet is placed on a vertical surface (e.g. a whiteboard), the pot magnet will hold 10-15% of the stated strength before it slides down or tips off. Therefore, you should check whether the channel magnet needs to hold something vertically or horizontally and choose the magnetic strength accordingly.
