Magnets for Nose Work

Based on our customers' experience, we see that two types of magnets are typically used for Nose Work. We describe them here and how they are used.

Ring magnets

The first type is ring magnets, which you see next to it. The great thing about ring magnets is that you can put a scent inside the magnet and then place the magnet on an iron surface. It's easy and they don't take up much space.
However, be aware that the magnets can be a bit fragile, especially when they are very thin. So treat them with care and perhaps wrap them in a thin layer of tape or similar.

Disc magnets

The second type is disc magnets. Here the idea is that you mount the disc magnet on the outside or inside the Nose Work can. This allows you to place the can on an iron surface. If possible, the magnet should be placed inside the can. Here the magnet is better protected and will not fall off as easily. To mount the magnet, you can use regular superglue. Do not use a glue gun as the heat can destroy the magnet.

When choosing a magnet, the strength should be no more than 2kg. If the magnet is placed on the outside of the can, you can safely choose a magnet with a lower strength. This is provided that the can weighs no more than a few hundred grams.

Nose Work is probably unfamiliar to most people, but it's a sport/activity where you train your dog to locate an object using its sense of smell. The object the dog has to find is typically a metal can containing a scent that the dog can follow
