Magnets keep dust extraction hoods in place

The woodworking workshop at Rosengårdcentret in Silkeborg has seven woodturning lathes and a wide range of other woodworking equipment. Here, a customer has used magnets to secure dust extraction hoods next to the lathes – a simple solution that allows the hoods to be repositioned as needed.

The magnets used in the project are countersunk pot magnets. They are well suited to the task because they can be fitted with countersunk screws, and the steel casing protects the magnet from damage caused by knocks and impacts.

The initial magnets, with a holding force of 6.9 kg, proved too small for the task, so a larger model with a holding force of approximately 11 kg was chosen . The photos show how the dust extraction hood is positioned close to the work area and connected to the extraction system with a flexible hose.
